Story
Beyond the Limits of Thinness, Engineering the Perfect Unfold.
From the hinge at the heart of folding
to advanced display materials and
crease reduction, Galaxy has led the
evolution of foldables through pioneering
technology.

The First Hinge
Galaxy FoldCreating Galaxy’s
First Foldable.Rather than simply bending, this was the first hinge engineered to fold and unfold with precision.
It was the core component that made the Infinity Flex Display commercially available for the first time. -

Hideaway Hinge
Galaxy Z Fold2Beyond Folding and
Unfolding, Freedom
at Every AngleA dual-CAM structure allowed the device to remain open at multiple angles, expanding the usability of the foldable form. Sweeper technology helped sweep foreign particles away from the hinge, while IPX8 water resistance addressed one of the greatest challenges in foldable engineering. Together, these innovations strengthened durability and helped make foldables reliable enough for everyday use—bringing foldable technology into the mainstream. -

Flex Hinge
Galaxy Z Fold5Perfect Symmetry.
Seamless Closure. The Fold, Aesthetically Perfected. Dual rails help distribute external impact, while four drive shafts guide the display into a waterdrop-shaped fold within the hinge. This structure creates balanced symmetry and allows both sides of the device to close seamlessly, resulting in a more refined foldable design. -

Galaxy Z Fold7Breaking the 1 cm Barrier.
Completing
the Ultra-Slim Fold.By separating the support structure beneath the folding display from the rotating shaft, the hinge module was made thinner and lighter. Reinforced materials and an optimized wing plate created a hinge that is both thinner and more resistant to impact.
This core engineering innovation enables an exceptionally slim design without compromising performance.

200,000 Folds
Galaxy Folding TestGalaxy foldables undergo folding tests of approximately 200,000 to 500,000 cycles.
At an average of 100 folds per day, this represents more than five years of use.
These extreme tests verify that the device can withstand repeated folding throughout everyday use. -
Addressing One of the
Greatest Foldable
Challenges:
Water Ingress Through
the Folding Gap
Water Resistance TestingGalaxy foldables undergo water-resistance testing through full immersion in water.
Testing verifies water resistance at a depth of 1.5 meters for at least 30 minutes.
These rigorous procedures confirm reliable water resistance in everyday conditions, including rainy weather. -
Built to Withstand
Everyday Impact
Impact TestingGalaxy foldables undergo extensive impact testing, including drop tests from specified heights to check functionality and tumble tests that apply repeated impact from multiple directions.
These extreme tests verify that the device continues to operate reliably under the levels of impact commonly encountered in everyday life. -
A Complex Structure,
Engineered to Perform
in Any Environment.
Environmental TestingGalaxy foldables are tested across a wide range of temperatures, climates and humidity levels.
Performance and operation are evaluated across conditions ranging from everyday environments to extreme conditions.
These tests verify that Galaxy foldables continue to operate reliably across the diverse conditions users may encounter in daily life.
